Ok, since I missed out last year partly due to my own procrastination and part to a live facebook build Brett and I were doing for six weeks, I am going to do this one.  I have always liked this JJ Hollender's Boxing Gym kit by FOS Scale Models, and never pulled the trigger to buy it until it was no longer available... Then it became hard to find.....At the Timonium show there it sat on the table of one vendor who deals in OOP kits and I didn't blink an eye and grabbed it up.  It's been calling my name from the shelf since November as I finished an FSM kit....finally.  This is my first build thread on the forum so here goes nothing....lol.

I will start tonight with some inside the box photos of some or most of all the parts involved.  More to come.

Seeking Kit... / Suggestions for a lighthouse kit?
April 13, 2017, 10:05:17 AM
Good Morning Modelers,

I am nearing the point on the harbor/wharf area of my layout where I can begin the creation of water. Most all structures, piers, docks, platforms, retaining walls, and landscape around it are about ready to go.  I have one specific footprint atop of a seawall of rocks that is dedicated to the addition of a lighthouse.  I thought that would have been one of my first structures I would have done, but as per the mold of a model railroader, I began the harbor and a thousand other ideas for it took over and I began working on those, neglecting a lighthouse and thinking I would sooner or later get to it.  Well later is here...lol.  I think my hesitation was finding a lighthouse in a kit that looks quality and has some unique charm in the style of coastal Maryland or New England.   Have scoured the internet and have come across some but they were either cheesy and cheap looking or they were craftsman kits (which is what I am looking for) that were so expensive that I'd have to refinance my home.  OR if I found one I did like, it was out of production by the manufacturer.

Any ideas on available kits that any of you are aware of?  I have even considered scratch building one, however my expertise on lighthouse architecture is zippo...

Kit Building / FOS Ideal Hosiery
April 12, 2017, 10:32:54 AM
Last night I began preparing for my next kit build of FOS Scale Models  "Ideal Hosiery"  I have had the kit since December when it caught my eye with it's design.  Perfect for one of the corners on our layout which will be sort of a garment district.  I will begin with the structural bracing tonight before NHL hockey playoffs start, and hopefully will have time to give the initial A/I stain/wash.    Unpacking it last night, I was pleasantly surprised to find a paper with photographs on each angle from FOS' model. A very nice touch not found so often in kits.  I will keep you all posted with photos during construction on how it goes.  Pretty pumped for this one!

One of the kits that had always had my attention and on my wish list was the Bar Mills Booty Corner, and finally this late fall I was able to shop around until I found one for sale to build this Winter with several other projects.  After it was built, I decided to give it some extra sidewalk, and an entire back alley of sorts.  It was definitely a fun kit to build, and I thought it would fit well in our world war 2 Americana era town.  All it needs now is some figures and for me to find a street corner to place it this next month!

I will try to find some of the step by step photos I took to add to it later!

Enjoy

This January and February I was working on a few structures for our layouts harbor which has not been completed, but nearly ready to start modeling the water.
The FOS Delgiorno Fish was one of the kits, and I really had a blast building it.  It isn't a very big structure but it has all the potential you could want to get creative with it.  However, the photo of FOS's advertisement for it was exactly the look I was going for, hence why I wanted to use it, so I kept the paint scheme nearly identical.  I did take the liberty to add larger pilings to the outside corners and mid-section of the model, and also get into some detailing of barnacles and algae on the pilings to enhance it at the water level.

About the time I was midway done with the model in February, FOS scale models on their Instagram page ran a contest asking participants to add a photo to their page of one of their models.....So I worked on it quicker and put more emphasis into the rusted corrugated siding that I had originally was planning.  But what a fun project that was very modeler friendly to build.  Directions (If you choose to read them) as always with their products are well written like they are there with you as you build it.  Also everything included fit to a T, and nothing could have been easier.  Can't wait to see it on the water in a few weeks as it fits perfectly with the other structures.

Enjoy!
