Down to final weathering on Creepr Dentist, so a quick palate-cleanser is on tap this cold, rainy Sunday. These littke guys are great for beginners (except they're sans directions), and great if you want to experiment with new techniques or just need some quick gratification. Kudos to FOS for expressing their customer appreciation in this way.

Kit Building / LaMont Camera by Fos

I'm itching to build a Fos kit, so here's what's up next. I looked and didn't see any threads on this one.

My wife and I have spent two weeks per summer for the past 20 years up in Onekama, Michigan. The Blue Slipper (now closed and on the market) has been an institution there, especially its iconic sign. I began to file photos of it a number of years ago for a future scratch build. Last summer I shared some pix with Kenny at KC's and lo-and-behold, he designed a kit of it and included it in his Cameron Street Corner set of buildings. At Springfield he'll be offering it as a separate structure. So this kit is special to me because of our personal connection, but also because it's the first idea of mine that someone turned into kit form.

The 2017 ALTOONA PA EXPO / Early Arrivals Dinner?
October 21, 2017, 10:23:58 AM
Would us Wednesday arrivals like to pull a dinner together? We could start a phone list. I'm getting in to Pitts early (8:30 am) but puttering along back roads sightseeing.

Kit Building / CCK's Monitor Barn Color Experiment
September 10, 2017, 08:56:27 AM
Decided to leave my comfort zone and try something different this morning. Here are the goods: good ol' inkahol; FolkArt's Driftwood Pickling Wash, that some of youse guys have turned us on to; Testor's Teak Acrylic Wash; craft paint (wanted Apple Barrel Barn Red but looks like Michael's stopped carrying Apple Barrel and I didn't want to drive 15 minutes to try Hobby Lobby).

Finally got a chance to visit the Mecca of model railroading last week and it's taken me the five days since returning home to get my pix properly oriented and labeled.

Why more F&SM pix?  "Why not?" I consider the threads by John and supplemented by Tom and others to be the authoritative go-to sources of information on George's layout. In fact, if it hadn't been for those threads and a couple of contacts with John I would not have been able to accurately organize my pix. Responses from Forumites suggested you can never have too many pictures of the F&SM.

It's interesting to see others' pictures of the layout sometimes even minute differences in angle or perspective reveal previously unnoticed details.

So, with an invitation from John to add mine to the mix, here is a walk-through from Franklin to Fillmore Yard as I experienced it last Saturday.

I did not take any of Muddville and the rest of the "new" section in the entry hall. I don't know why...I think I was so overwhelmed by finally being there that Thom Driggers' warm welcome drew me directly in, passing the shadowbox scenes. Ah, well.

Kenny's small business kits are wonderfully adaptable. This weekend's project was his Joe's Barber Shop repurposed as Miller's Produce, named after our favorite fruit/veggie grower up in Manistee County, Michigan. The signs are the work of Michael Duggan at Paw of a Bear. He's done a bunch of custom signs for me and his work his great.

The hobby shop is the same kit I did a couple of years ago as a hobby shop named for my late father-in-law and model railroader extraordinaire, Lyle Fleener.

This will go in a small town scene I've got planned for "someday."  Thanks for a great kit, Kenny, and your fantastic design sense, Michael.

Kit Building / CCK's Five & Dime

Had the privilege this past week of giving Jeff's new one a test ride.  Heading downstairs now to finish up...needs weathering, touch-ups, details, LPs...another nice kit from He Who is Groovy.
