Delgiorno Fish from FOS Scale Models Winter Fun Project

This January and February I was working on a few structures for our layouts harbor which has not been completed, but nearly ready to start modeling the water.
The FOS Delgiorno Fish was one of the kits, and I really had a blast building it.  It isn't a very big structure but it has all the potential you could want to get creative with it.  However, the photo of FOS's advertisement for it was exactly the look I was going for, hence why I wanted to use it, so I kept the paint scheme nearly identical.  I did take the liberty to add larger pilings to the outside corners and mid-section of the model, and also get into some detailing of barnacles and algae on the pilings to enhance it at the water level.

About the time I was midway done with the model in February, FOS scale models on their Instagram page ran a contest asking participants to add a photo to their page of one of their models.....So I worked on it quicker and put more emphasis into the rusted corrugated siding that I had originally was planning.  But what a fun project that was very modeler friendly to build.  Directions (If you choose to read them) as always with their products are well written like they are there with you as you build it.  Also everything included fit to a T, and nothing could have been easier.  Can't wait to see it on the water in a few weeks as it fits perfectly with the other structures.

Enjoy!

nice work Todd! The weathering is great, really looks like the structure has been exposed to the ocean.

Terrific job!  Love the rust on the panels and everything else about it.  Two thumbs up!

I have this one in my stash.  Actually it's sitting on the floor next to my bed on top of Execution Rocks and Emporium Seafood.  All in kit form waiting to be built.   ::)  I wanted to get some footprints to start planning a module but haven't made any progress on that front in quite some time.   :P

Bob, thank you and thank you to everyone else here for the compliments.  Truly it was just a whole lot of fun to build.  I can't take complete credit for the rust, I pretty much looked at what was on the photos by fos and tried to duplicate it, and the directions included explain how they got that look.  It was pretty easy from that point forward.  their models are a pleasure to build because they make them so.  Detailed instruction that doesn't come across as clinical, helps the modeler look at building a quality structure without feeling intimidated and helps to relax them as they complete the work.  Everyday style conversation dialog gives it a human feel and not like you are trying to put together a table from ikea...lol.

Bar Mills also does this in my opinion equally as well.  It is smart, and both companies go out of their way to include countless tips that help modelers in future structure building or attempted scratch building and design.  I have built craftsmanship models from other companies (I will not name them)  who's instructions were one continuous droning giant paragraph without breaks and you literally have to put a ruler on them to find out where you were.  Doing it the way these two companies do I believe will help break in new modelers who wish to step up their game from the injection molded plastic models with four simple wall construction and a big sprue of glue on details.

Hi Longstreet:

Very well done. Great colors and the rusted corrugated is very nicely done. Also really like the barnacles on the pilings.

Todd,
All around great build.  Welcome to the forum, and hope to see some photos of your layout's harbor area.
