I finally bit the bullet and bought Bailey's produce on ebay.
This is where I am now
This was new unopened kit and I had all the templates. then along came spring cleaning and this is what I have now Can any one help with the ones i lost
Thanks
Well I haven't found templates yet. so I've been old schooling. Scratching from photos. I found a good side view of the truck dock and I have the brick footings, I can probably draw it up using those for a size reference. I think this side is pretty well done. Now I get to go back and fix what the picture showed me.
Dick,
Somehow I missed your first post. I have the kit unbuilt, do you still need any templates? I can send them, you can copy and send back or I'll scan and send.
Tom ;D
Great job on this build so far!
I just finished this one earlier this year. I would have happily sent the templates to you but I gave them, along with everything else that was in the box, to the new owner of Bailey's.
Thanks tom. If your could scan the templates and the roof card that that has the smaller panels and the truck dock roof that would make life so much easier. Ill pm my email.
Thanks for the comments. It means a lot and helps me try to get better.
Dick
Here's the punch list. Feel free to add anything you see. your opinions are appreciated
Dick
Dick,
Everything was scanned and sent. Hope they help in the build. They are scanned and sized to 1024 X 525 pixels.
By the way, beautiful job on the build.
Tom ;D
Thanks Tom
I hope I can pay it forward some day
Thank you for the comment on the build

Tom,
Thanks for taking care of Dick Green. We were able to meet up last weekend at the candy store here in Minnesota while he was on a camping trip to my neck of the woods.
Have the kit here but was unable to find the bin that had the kit in it this week. Know that when he comes back our way in the fall, that he might have time to stop over the house then.
He builds some really nice models too !
Tommy
Thanks for the kind words Tom. And yes I hope we can hookup for a while in the fall

Dick,
No problem, I'll get them in the mail Monday morning.
Tom ;D
I had some time last night so I started the front. This is about the time when George says to glue the building to a base. I had some 1/2 inch gator board so I cut an 11 x 11 piece. Painted the edges and put on a coat of earth paint. I need to tack it down so I can trace the outline and add some dirt, street, track ( I may just make this truck served only), and sidewalk.
I need to come up with a way to make the metal steps look more like wood. They look pretty good in the picture but live they are totally the wrong color.I'm thinking painting with alcohol and chalk.
I messed up the window over the loading dock and remembered I had some Bar Mills fans.
Speaking of steps would you add the railings before you glue the steps down? This is pretty fiddly work and it might be easier to do them first so the building doesn't get in the way.

I took the approach of gluing the steps in place first and then add the railings. If I recall correctly the posts for the railings that sit on the top stair can be pushed back against the loading dock so there's a little (very little) extra surface area to use for gluing. I'd be afraid of breaking them off if I glue them to the stairs prior to installing the stairs. That's just me though.
Looks very good overall!
Thanks for the tip and the compliment
Dick:
Well done. Stucco looks great as do the colors.
Karl
Thanks Karl
Dick,
A really very nice build. BTW, templates mailed.
Tom ;D
I'm really having fun with this one. It's my first FSM and now I understand what everyone means when they say these are the best. every thing from The design to the instructions to the castings. I'm hooked :P
Dick
Dick, that does look really nice so far. Nice job on all the variety of wall treatments.
I have only built one FSM kit, but loved it and hope to do another one day. It was in the late 70s and was the first craftsman structure kit I ever attempted and it taught me skills I still use to this day.

Thanks George
We went garage saling today
I'm happy; Wife's happy.
Of course it will never look like this again :P
Great find Dick! I'd love to have one of those. However if I did the wife would claim it for herself. ;D ;D ;D And yes, it'll never be that neat looking again. ;D
Dick,
The roll top desk is a great find.
Tom ;D
Thanks Tom. We went to about 20 garage sales and then on the way we saw another sign and that's where I found it. sure will be nice to close it when company comes
Heading to Walmart for black ink so i can copy stuff
Dick
Well I knew the tedious stuff would come sooner or later. End gluing scale 4x4's is such a treat and I still have one more gusset to do.
Any tips on how to glue this together and keep it square and unbroken :P
Dick
Dave Frary said he often drills small holes and then uses brass/phosphor bronze wires to pin the pieces in place. That's a bit tedious, but it does work well for structures that are handled or that have a lot of stress.
dave
After trying a few things. I decided to make a jig out of 8 inch strip wood to hold the sides upright and parallel and then glue the gas it's on top then I went to work so I'll see how it turns out when I get home tonight
Dick
I just got caught up with your thread. The build looks very nice, you are doing a great job with it. And that roll top desk is great find.
hey Dick:
Sound like you have it under control. that's a very nice roll top desk.
Karl
Well that's done! I didn't glue it to the pillars yet as I'm not 100% sold on them yet maybe picking out some bricks in a different color and some dry brushing, But I will think about that tomorrow. It only broke twice before I finally got it all together. I think I'll practice making the road tonight.
Very nice.
Thank you Curt
Those brick pillars look really good, Dick. The whole thing so far is looking good. Keep the pics coming...
--George
Looks good! One thing I picked up from the military modelers , and I used on one of my ITLA builds was to paint some random bricks black before I painted the brick color on. This put a more subtle color difference in the bricks with the black color behind the brick color, if this makes sense,,,,,
Thanks George and bob. Although it doesn't show up on the pictures there are different shades in the bricks. I like the idea of painting some black first I'll remember that on.
Great job Dick. That's a tricky little structure. I remember looking at it and thinking this shouldn't take long. Boy was I wrong. :o
Good job Dick.....brick pillars were very common option compared to compacted fill when the floor had to be raised above grade.....looks good. 8)
Dick,
Very well done and looks great.
Tom ;D
Dick
Very nice modeling - it looks great.
First pass with scenery
Very nice!
Now is the dangerous time for me when I start to get bored with a build. I'm basically done, just need to build side porch and stairs. So I figured its time to add some sizzle. lots of stuff to paint and junk to place. i'm not really sure what all the produce in the baskets and boxes is but I have lots of paints to choose from. OK so are they russets or baby reds? ::)
Last thing before bed. Think a little heavier on the green paint
Great looking build.
Beautiful work!
Thanks Curt and Cuse. All comments are welcomed. that's how we get better.
Dick,
Absolutely a fantastic job on the Bailey's build. After seeing your build and following Reading Bob's build of Bailey's, I'm getting antsy to build mine.
Love the tree, very realistic looking. All thumbs up from here.
Tom ;D
Hey Dick:
You are doing A beautiful job with this one.
Karl
thanks for the comments guys. they really mean a lot to me. They also motivate me to fix things that other wise might be "good enough". Taking pictures as we all know show us things that otherwise go unnoticed. the only actual construction left is the side porch. Then finish the diorama and add all the details. I think I am going to leave the office for another time. I might make a little She shed scene for my wife
Hi guys
Off work early and tomorrow off. Wife is doing her diamond painting so I have time to play. Started on the back porch and the instructions say to glue it to the building and then add posts, stairs, and railings. George says to prop it up while it dries. I buy note pads at garage sales and thrift stores. They make great little pallets for glue and mixing chalks. I was looking at one I thought what if I just peel off layers until it is the right height. Well peeled off a few at a time put it beside the wall and it held the porch up perfectly level. No measuring, no propping. i wish I had thought of this when I glued on all the awnings.
Dick
Your build looks great - having the right tools at the right time really helps.
finished up the back porch. a little tedious but not bad
The porch and stairs are nicely done.
Thanks Curt
Its been a crazy week at work. but I finally got of early today. I have really enjoyed this build but some times George throws you a curve, mainly the power lines. I'm on attempt four, but ill get it. Might a late night though. Pictures tomorrow
I M Done.
I basically finished this one. I have some details to paint and place still, but I'm gonna clean up the desk and start the next one. Thanks everyone for the words of encouragement and generous comments.
Great job Dick , you have a great feel for color and detailing.
Fantastic results, Dick. Real top-shelf workmanship, there. Thanks for sharing.
--George
Thank you George.
Looks great Dick! I'm looking forward to your next build. ;)
Here are the final pics. Thank you all for the kind comments and suggestions.
Dick, that is exceptionally well done. Love the detail in the produce coming in from the local farmer.
--George
Nice looking diorama. The stucco, shingles, roofs, details, everything looks great.
Jeff
Excellent modeling Dick.
I agree, Excellent modeling Sir.....................
Thanks for all the kind words guys. This was a lot of fun I would love another fine scale kit. I haven't been able to score on at a price I can justify. Maybe I'll try to scratch build one of his simpler ones.
Dick can you slice me a piece of that watermelon?
Looking really good , this was a fun build.
Hey Dick:
Very well done.
Karl
Good Job Dick.
Jim
Thanks for all the kind words. Things have slowed down lately. It is camping season after all, and I have to get out in the new camper while I can. I know you're all thinking I can model while we camp. I suggested it to my wife. It was a very short conversation :-X
Dick
Dick,
Excellent, love the overall look of the structure and weathering.
Tom ;D
Thanks Tom
